Matthew Prokop
For Tired Souls - Digital Release date: 8.31.18 Matthew's very own description for his debut album, "For Tired Souls" was spot on. Prokop states, "the following collection of songs is an attempt at expressing something from which much of our generation seems to be suffering: exhaustion. it is difficult to keep up with current events and, at the same time, keep your sanity intact, and each one of these songs was written at a time during which I felt absolutely overwhelmed; however, in writing them, I found a deep sense of comfort, too." Finding a deep sense of "comfort" is one of many words that could be used to describe this beautiful collection of songs. The non-intrusive piano and layered ethereal synths mesh remarkably well in Turquoise and Blue, the album's opening track. All Over, Over Again sounds like a familiar friend and could easily be a lost dusty gem from Stars of the Lid's backlog. The piano melodies and the synth backdrops for the remainder of the album is nothing short of brilliant. The movements are warm and contemporary, but have the nostalgic feeling of Harold Budd & Brian Eno's The Pearl. Restrained, minimal, pleasant, and comforting. More than Prokop promised. |
